Saddle Stitch BindingBinding With Staples
Saddle stitching is a popular binding method for low-page-count “books” like small manuals, catalogs, programs, booklets, brochures, graphic novels, magazines, newsletters, and coloring books. At Duncan Press, we offer this affordable and efficient binding option.
With saddle stitching, the cover and pages are folded, then stapled through the center crease. The number of staples used depends on the item’s size and page count. Since saddle stitching is based on folded paper, the page count will always be divisible by four.
Why Use Saddle-Stitch Binding?
One key advantage of saddle stitching is that an image can span the center and stretch across the full width of the two pages without losing the central crease, unlike with glued or stitched bindings. However, the requirement for a page count divisible by four can sometimes result in empty or tightly packed pages.
For added versatility, optional 3-hole punches can be added so the saddle-stitched book can be included in a 3-ring binder along with other materials. Standard sizes offered include 8.5″ x 11″, 5.5″ x 8.5″, and 6″ x 9″.
Saddle stitching is an economical choice, especially for short print runs. It’s also a fast binding method that creates relatively lightweight items, which can help reduce postage costs.
